Hollywood Assassyn is 4 guys from the northern region of the continent who took it upon themselves to crash into the world of spurious hype and decadent artifice, which now appear to represent today’s ideas of glamour and success, and steal 15 minutes of the spotlight for the average dude that’s slaving it everyday while watching the rest of the world happen around them.
The name was chosen to depict the absurdities covered by today’s pop music trends and entertainment world.
“The lack of talent being overshadowed by extravagances and neurotic behaviors seems a bit phony and irritating to us. We’re more the ‘what-you-see-is-what-you-get type’ than a bunch of pretty boys posing for the ladies and record execs”
Their influences are too many to cite, but their ability to create songs from all extremities of the Hard-Rock/Metal spectrum will surely find a way to please anyone taking the time to listen to what these guys have to offer, in one way or another.
Still a young band, they have managed over the course of the last couple years to land several high profile shows including opening for Danko Jones, Powerman 5000, Gob, Art of Dying, Bif Naked, Defaut, Social Code and Finger 11. The live shows give you a taste of a band who plays from the heart, for the love of real dirty rock and roll. And because of their transparency and realness, Hollywood Assassyn has managed to build a loyal fanbase along the way.
They have released demo recordings to 2 different CD compilations, as well as their first E.P. ‘The Sick In Me’ which spawned two singles; ‘That Side of Me’ which reached number 4 on 100.6FM The Goat and ‘You Won’t Regret It’ which climbed right to the top spot and remained for 3 weeks. That same single also reached number 70 in the United States Rock in Roll charts.
Now in 2010 these boys are already slotted to share the stage with Offspring, Chevelle, Papa Roach & Matt Good and an incredibly strong new untitled E.P. is in the mixing stages and is expected to out perform their last.
Hollywood Assassyn is one Edmonton band that has made a very serious move in their local scene quickly and forcefully, and now they have fixated their sights on the next level and know exactly how to get what they want. Hard work and kicking ass are the formula. The rest is what it’s supposed to be.
